This portrait was created in a toned tan sketchbook, beginning with a graphite pencil sketch and built up through layered ink and dry media. Fine-line ink establishes the structure and expression, while colored ink markers and colored pencil add depth and warmth to the features. White charcoal pencil and white gel pen were used selectively to lift highlights and emphasize contrast, allowing the figure to emerge from the mid-tone surface with softness and dimensionality.
